    THE DATE
    5 to 14 December 2008

    THE ROUTE
    From Chukai (Kemaman), Hulu Dungun, Hulu Terengganu and Kuala Terengganu.

    THE COMPETITIVE FORMAT/ ADVENTURE
    Each team will be tested on their ability to overcome various obstacles along the way. Points gained will be on the fastest time. Penalty for infringement of safety and environmental rules. Overcoming the obstacles with recovery work will be emphasized.

    The Rainforest Challenge was awarded the Top Ten Most Spectacular Sports Tourism Event by the Ministry of Tourism & Ministry of Youth & Sports of Malaysia and the Most Countries Participation in a 4x4 Event by Malaysia Book of Records.

    If you have the passion of living out your 4x4 passion, have the correct mindset and attitude for a jungle adventure and love meeting up with fellow 4x4 adventurers from around the world - then the Rainforest Challenge is for you.

    Be forewarned : This event is not for the faint hearted. Mother Nature rules supreme, event schedule is subject to the awesome might of nature.

    CHARLIE CHANDRAN CAMARADERIA AWARD
    This award is for an individual who is socially active, has no malice, is likeable by everyone and is a livewire in any social function as embodied by Charlie Chandran himself, dearly missed but not forgotten.

    THE GRAND CEREMONIES
    The Rainforest Challenge is part of Visit Terengganu Year 2008 with VIPs from the state of Terengganu.

    ASEAN/LOCAL/MALAYSIAN ENTRY FEES
    Participants from ASEAN (Association of South East Asia Nations), foreign residents in Malaysia using local vehicles and Malaysians are not subjected to the US Dollars (USD) fees quoted. The absence of administrative/bureaucratic charges for ASEAN and local vehicles means that these participants will be paying their entry in Ringgit Malaysia (RM) only. Those falling under this category, please write to/consult the RFC Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur or your country representatives for the local rates.

    FOREIGN ENTRIES
    4x4 Category (Competitor) Entry fee of USD2,000 per team of two persons. Airfare, freight and miscellaneous expenses not included.

    Touring Adventurer 4x4 Category (with own vehicles non competition)
    Entry fee of USD2,000 per team of two persons. Airfare, freight and miscellaneous expenses not included. Additional passenger in the vehicle at USD800. Maximum of 4 persons in one vehicle.

    Touring Adventurer (Spectator) Category
    Entry fee of USD1,000 per person. Seated in a support vehicle, non competition. Admittance subject to interviews.

    SPECIAL CLAUSE FOR TOURING ADVENTURER SPECTATOR
    Support vehicle will carry your personal belongings and provide you with food/drinks on a Spartan basis. Only at campsites and selected stops. Stopovers at towns and villages for drinks and food are not included. Your own dry rations. Support vehicle will not be responsible for lost baggage and personal belongings.

    TOURING ADVENTURER WITH OWN VEHICLE
    Strictly following the main convoy only along designated route. Accountable for own passengers or team members in the vehicle.

    DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR ALL FOREIGN VEHICLES
    Competitors and all those bringing their vehicles for touring - Please submit the following items to the Secretariat as early as possible (2-3 months before the event date). If you have any query on your documentation, please consult the RFC Secretariat.

    SUPPORTERS PACKAGE
    All supporters and family members are welcome to witness the pre-event happenings (see modified 4x4 from around the world, scrutineering of vehicles) opening ceremony and the Prologue Special Stages. See the opening ceremony and the first two day's Prologue Special Stages then head off for your own holidays or join the convoy at special Designated places.

    VEHICLE FOR HIRE
    For those who wish to hire locally prepared 4x4 vehicles for the event, please contact the RFC Secretariat for details. Hire rate from USD5,000 onwards per vehicle for 10 days.

    QUADS (ATV) ENTRY
    (Entry fees for quad rider is USD1,500)
    Entitle to sharing of one 4x4 support vehicle to carry ATV spares, clothes, camping and cooking items at USD500 per rider. Note that this support car will have two man-crew to assist the ATV riders. Cooking on your own but they will help you with setting up the camp and cook simple meals if required to. One support car can carry the about items for 2 ATV riders.

    MOTORBIKE ENTRY
    (Entry fees for motorbike rider is USD1,500).

    For motorcross bikes, they can also come with their own machines. The rate for entry for motorbikes is USD1,500 per person with the same conditions as the quads. The same sharing of the local support vehicle at USD500 per person. So, entry fee at USD1,500 + USD500 = USD2,000.

    DEPOSIT
    A USD300 deposit is required to reserve place for all categories. This deposit is non refundable. Please send two colour passport size photographs along with your application in the entry form. Please include your off road or adventure experience.

    DRIVING LICENSE
    Compulsory. Issued by any motoring authority and recognized under the Motor Traffic Act of Malaysia. Apply for an International license in your country. Please consult RFC Secretariat if you have any problem with this. Please consult RFC Secretariat if you have any problems on this.

    COMPETITION LICENSE
    All competitors must have MAM (Motorsports Association of Malaysia) competitor license which can be purchased at RFC Secretariat at less than RM100 (subject to changes).

    CARNET
    Compulsory. Please apply for ATA carnet from your country, through the Chambers of Commerce. Without Carnet : Face temporary import duty charges. Application for refundable Bank Guarantee (BG) required for Malaysian Customs. This will be returned upon shipping of vehicle out of Malaysia. BG must be done with Malaysian bank. Administrative and bank charges will be levied for such service.

    Please mail your original Carnet to APM Global Logistics Services Sdn Bhd (Damco) with consignee as Future Oracle Sdn Bhd (the organizer) to ensure a smooth collection of your vehicles from the Customs at the port.

    FLIGHT AND OCEAN FREIGHT TO MALAYSIA
    Special air and ocean freight arrangements with Maersk Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Airport of destination: KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport). Seaport of destination : North Port, Port Klang.

    All participants must bear the cost of their own flight and ocean freight to Malaysia, plus all local handling charges. Check with your respective air and sea carriers.

    FIRST AID COURSE
    All participants must take a beginners First Aid Course in their country of origin.

    ACCREDITED FOREIGN PRESS
    Entitled to 2 pre-event and 2 post-event hotel accommodation nights. By invitation only. Conditional upon able to publish and/or telecast the event in own country. Please write to RFC Secretariat for accreditation.

    OTHER FOREIGN PRESS
    Payment of USD800 per entry. Same conditions as Touring Adventurer. Please consult RFC Secretariat.

    RIGHTS OF ORGANISER
    The organizer reserves the right to amend, change or cancel the route or schedule as well as the Rules and Regulations as and when is necessary. The organizer can also cancel the event upon prior notice.

    INDEMNITY
    All participants will have to sign an indemnity, which is included in the application form before embarking on the adventure. Participants will be barred from joining the event if they fail to do so.

    The organizer, creator/founder, owner, its sponsors, representatives, officials, marshals, servants or anyone appointed to the event by the organizer is exempted from any responsibility of any kind of any mishaps, death, loss, injury or damage to property, vehicle and personal belongings of the participants.
